HiI am a freelance content writer, copy editor and UX consultant based in Bristol.
My name is Melissa Burfitt and I am a freelance content writer, copy editor and UX consultant.
I’m based in Bristol and specialise in travel, food, interior design, architecture and construction.
CURRENT & PAST EXPERIENCE
I am Editor of the Scott Williams Unmissables travel guides (print) and a contributing writer at Foozie (digital). Prior to becoming a freelance editor and writer, I was Assistant Editor at travel website i-escape, where (amongst many other things) I launched the Menorca and Montenegro portfolios.
Examples of my writing include travel accounts for Wanderlust Magazine, culture pieces for The Independent, interior design blogging for These Four Walls, travel writing for Beach Café, and listicles for 101 Holidays. I have also produced marketing copy for various agencies and brands.
I have over 7 years of editorial, marketing, PR and SEO experience, which I apply to digital and print, blog and SEO writing, press releases and brand identity projects, reports and research papers… In addition, my UX research and design projects have included augmented reality experiences, responsive information architecture and digital purchase experiences.
When I’m not at a computer, I’m walking my delightful Wild at Heart Foundation rescue dog, renovating my home (the never-ending task), trying new restaurants or travelling (preferably somewhere where I can also try new restaurants). Sometimes, I do a bit of yoga, kayaking or bouldering.
Food, Travel, Interior Design & Architecture
I write tailored print and digital content for brands and publications, supporting your objectives with carefully crafted and engaging copy – whether it’s for blog posts, articles, reviews, digital content, press releases or brand identity projects.
I have lots of experience working with boutique hotels and restaurants. From tiny owner-run Marrakech riads and private-island resorts in Montenegro to Michelin-starred London restaurants and Bristol pop-up dining events.
If this sounds useful, do get in touch. I’m happy to chat about ideas over a cup of tea or Skype. firstname.lastname@example.org
Editor & Copy Editor
A colleague once described me as a “born editor”. I took it as a compliment, but it is a bit of a double-edged sword. While I relish choosing layouts, standardising content, creating succinct, impactful copy and sitting very quietly for long periods of time, it’s hardly a party-starter…
Luckily, I love editing pieces for accuracy, relevance and overall impact. Whether it’s a 700-word hotel review, a company website or a 20-page sustainability report, my aim is to make your content as effective as possible. I often have a hand in the visuals and layout, too – which is where my UX skills come in handy. Recent editorial projects include relaunching a series of 25 travel guides in 4 months, optimising written content for SEO and digital readership, and copy-editing energy and sustainability assessment research papers.
Think you might need a second pair of eyes? I can help with that. email@example.com
There is nothing more fascinating to me than why the mind does what it does – whether you want it to or not. Following a user experience design course at Bristol UWE, I have conducted UX research and design work for brand identity projects, responsive website redesigns and augmented reality experiences.
User research and analysis, personas, wireframes and information architecture, user journeys – I’d be delighted to help. firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to talk about a freelance project or creative ideas, that would be just lovely.
